Thank you for stopping by! Awfully Awesome 80's is your 24/7 listener-supported internet radio guide to the music of the 80's through the early 90's. We play lost and classic top 40 hits, but we also place a heavy emphasis on the minor charters and non-charters...or as we call them, bottom 45's. Special Mixcloud shows will be announced as time permits. If you have a general suggestion or a song request, then please use our chat widget in the lower right corner or the manual contact form below. Your request will be queued for play in at least 60 minutes if it is already in the station's inventory, or else I will receive an email copy of your request. Please note that those who contribute to the "tip jar" get prompt acknowledgment of their requests, even though I try my best to fulfill all requests that are excellent fits for the rotation. Please read the "Membership Special" post below if you're interested in submitting multiple song requests every day.

If you appreciate what we do, then please make use of our PayPal buttons on the site. You can donate a one-time amount or choose from 10 monthly subscription amounts; the donations will help enhance our programming and keep us on Live365. THE AMERICAN BOTTOM 45 OF THE DAY - CONDUCTOR - VOICE ON THE RADIO

THE AMERICAN BOTTOM 45 OF THE DAY: Conductor - Voice On The Radio - Montage 1210 - Peaked at 63 in Billboard on 2/20/82 and at 68 in Cashbox.

This is a feature I'm going to start doing on a regular basis, especially since Awfully Awesome 80's likes to play a lot of records from the 80's and early 90's that didn't chart or never reached the Top 40. I'm only going to provide pictures as I would like you to tune into the station and hear these tracks or even request them!

Conductor were essentially a male/female duo rounded out with session players. They could have been like Nu Shooz, Eye To Eye or Unipop, but they were a solid-sounding melodic/arena rock act...and there were MANY of them around during '81-'82! Unfortunately, their career never took off as someone from their record label felt that lead singer Judy Comden's walking disability was a stumbling block. The 80's was all about image, whether we agree with it or not. So there was never a big tour or any MTV videos. A somewhat similar thing happened to Romeo Void in '84 when their "A Girl In Trouble" video was made; less emphasis was placed on the lead singer as someone at Columbia felt that she wasn't photogenic enough. Even though Romeo Void finally had a top 40 hit, their career never recovered.

You will want to check this out if you are/were a fan of Toronto, The Breaks/Drama, Quarterflash without the sax, and Scandal Featuring Patty Smyth(who, just like Conductor, started out with a 5 song EP).

"Voice On The Radio" was written by Franne Golde('79 minor charter "Here I Go(Fallin' In Love Again)") and Peter McIan(Men At Work producer and '80 mid-charter "Solitaire," which AA80's plays). Franne and Peter also co-wrote "Cool Kids," which Franne recorded in '80 and Kix made the best-known version of in '83(some of you may remember Beavis And Butthead's trashing of the video!).

You can hear this and many other bottom 45's every hour at Awfully Awesome 80's' website, which is at http://awfullyawesomeeighties.com. We hope to see you soon at Live365!
